A Vessel for the Sun. Commissioned by Belmond, LVMH.

These pieces stem from my examination of the relationships between objects and images, and are also a response to the territory and climate of Quintana Roo state, where the work was created. The process often involved a negotiation -sometimes even a struggle- with the forces of nature, and the results are heavily affected by the movement of the tides, the power of the wind, the palpable presence of the jungle, and the strength of the sun’s rays. This negotiation gave way to a dialogue between opposing impulses: on one hand the ideal of order and precision, on the other a surrendering to chance and change.
